What you need to vote in Missouri

Here's what you need to know before you go to vote this primary season.

  1. Ensure you're registered (in 2026, trust me, you'll want to double-check).

  2. Bring your photo ID (necessary for Missouri). Acceptable voter IDs include non-expired Missouri driver's license, non-expired Missouri state ID card, non-expired US passport, non-expired military ID, or another non-expired photo ID issued by the United States or Missouri. Student IDs DO NOT COUNT.

  3. Pick a ballot. For primary elections in Missouri, voters must choose a single party's ballot or receive an issues-only ballot. If I've earned your vote, you'll need to request a Democratic Party primary ballot.

Important notes:

  • You do not need to bring a registration card or proof of address to vote, just bring your valid photo ID to your polling place on August 4th or to your local Election Authority office for early voting.

  • You do not need to register with any political party to vote in their primary election or to vote on the very important ballot initiatives. Simply request the ballot you want from the election judge (Democratic Party, Republican Party, Libertarian Party, Constitution Party, or the issues-only ballot).

  • You have the right to a free voter ID. The Missouri Department of Revenue will provide you with one non-driver's license photo ID for voting purposes. Visit https://dor.mo.gov/ or call (573)-526-8683 to learn more.

  • You have the right to fill out a provisional ballot. If you lost your ID, request a provisional ballot when you go to vote.
